Who supports the E-rate?

Americans Support the E-Rate

Two EdLiNC surveys shows that Americans support the E-Rate.

Major Findings from EdLiNC 1999 Survey:

  • 87 percent of Americans support providing discounts to needy schools and libraries.

  • 83 percent of Americans think that Internet access in schools and libraries will improve education opportunities for all Americans.

  • 87 percent of Americans support continuing discounts to schools and libraries.

The poll was conducted in the spring of 1999 by Lake, Snell, Perry and Associates, and the Tarrance Group. One thousand U.S. households were surveyed.

Major Findings from E-Rate Hotline/EdLiNC 1998 Survey:

  • 93 percent of schools and libraries in rural and low-income areas were aware of the E-Rate.

  • 84 percent of respondents said they intended to take advantage of the E-Rate.

  • 73 percent of respondents said the E-Rate would increase the use of technology.

  • 57 percent of respondents said the E-Rate will allow them to purchase new services.

The survey was conducted in the spring of 1998. The E-Rate Hotline, a project of The Education and Libraries Networks Coalition (EdLiNC), surveyed 165 schools and libraries in 14 states.
